Here is a Ibanez GSR205SM Bass Guitar which came in for electronics repair and got a setup. Two wires in the control capitaly became disconnected when the potentiometer came loose and the whole potentiometer turned. A quick look at the wiring diagram allowed me to get it back up and running as good as new! Once the wires were soldered up, the potentiometers were tightened down to make sure this won’t happen again!
I then went ahead and set up this bass. First thing I noticed was that the neck was not completely seated in the neck pocket. An unseated neck joint can cause issues with performing a setup as well as problems transferring sound throughout the bass. I took the neck off to discover that there were a ton of wood shavings and buffing compound caked in the pocket. This crud was cleaned out and now the neck sits perfectly in the neck pocket. Cleaning out the neck pocket is one of the quality assurance issues that should not have left the factory without being corrected! Anyways, once assembled, the truss rod adjusted nicely, action was set at a good height, and an intonation adjustment was performed.
This bass is now playing and sounding the best it can be! Overall this is a great sounding and playing bass for the price point. I love the spalted maple top on this one. It even has a bit of flame figuring within it! The color really pops in the light too. Ibanez calls this color Brown Burst.
